Assault With Duct Tape Leads to Robbery

| No TrackBacks

It's something that you would think only happens in a movie. Any television watcher has probably watched a scene where the criminals tie a person to the wall with duct tape, and then do damage to the property of some sort while the victim is observing.

In real life, people are a little more clever and aren't stupid enough to do such a thing. Or are they? Four armed robbers walked into an unlocked San Juan Capistrano home Sunday night and assaulted two residents by restraining them with duct tape. The robbers then proceeded to take several possessions from the home and escape the vicinity in two separate cars.

The most idiotic thing was that the robbers were all unmasked, and as soon as the victims were able to break free they fled to their neighbor's home to call authorities. Police were able to round up four suspects including Zachari Todd Thompson, 22, Robert Cande Rodriquez, 23, Victor Esteban Alvarado, 25, and Eric Andrew McLoughlin, 27, all of whom are from Riverside.

Deputies have identified and recovered more than $3000 in sports memorabilia taken from the home, but cash, jewelry, and credit cards taken in the San Capistrano robbery still remain missing.

Orange County and Los Angeles County authorities are urging residents now more than ever to keep track of personal belongings. Deputy officials report that burglaries typically increase during the holiday season and that simple precautions such as the locking of doors and keeping valuables away from visible places can prevent robberies.
