Judge Orders Alexis Neiers to Spend One Year in Rehab

Bling Ring member Alexis Neiers was arrested last week for probation violation and heroin possession, but she is now out of jail after yesterday's hearing. The Los Angeles Times reports that Superior Court Judge Peter Espinoza sentenced the 19-year-old convicted thief to one year in the Malibu SOBA Recovery Center. The sentence came after Alexis Neiers' Los Angeles criminal defense attorney argued that his client had a drug addiction and that a residential treatment program would be far more successful than more time behind bars.

Los Angeles prosecutors argued that Alexis Neiers should have been sentenced to two years in prison because she is currently on probation and that time in prison would be the defendant's suspended sentence for her residential burglary conviction. Prosecutor Chris Baker also said that Alexis Neiers had ignored the basic requirements of probation after her release from the County Jail when she failed to check in with the probation department.

Perhaps some legal experts would say that Alexis Neiers got off easy for being sentenced to just one year in a rehab center. The Bling Ring member was ordered to spend six months in jail last summer after being convicted of residential burglary. Due to jail overcrowding, however, Alexis Neiers served only 29 days of her sentence.

Alexis Neiers got quite a bit of media attention last year because video surveillance captured her and other teenagers burglarizing actor Orlando Bloom's home. After her arrest, Alexis Neiers became the star of the E! reality show Pretty Wild.
