Actress Lindsay Lohan apparently isn't the only one in her family who is currently facing legal trouble. The New York Daily News reports that the pop star's father, Michael Lohan, was arrested on Monday in West Hollywood after getting into an altercation with a female victim.
Sheriff's deputies found that the victim in this case had minor injuries, which led to Lohan being booked on three felony criminal charges, including inflicting corporal injury on a cohabitant, false imprisonment and preventing the report of victimization. His bail was reportedly set to $200,000.
Lohan’s ex, Kate Major, confirmed for the press that she was the victim in this domestic violence dispute and that Lohan threw her across the room, which caused injury to her left shoulder. She also claims that Lohan tried to choke her with a towel. The ex-couple have had a long history of high-profile disputes, some of which have escalated into violent acts.
Felony domestic violence crimes usually involve repetitive physical and psychological abuse. FindLaw states that the specific crimes charged will vary based on the severity of the victim’s injuries, whether a minor was present at the time of the violent act, and whether a protective or restraining order was violated. Domestic violence victims are often able to file civil suits against their abusers.
Clearly, Michael Lohan needs some help. It’s been rumored that he will appear on season 5 of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. If the legal penalties don’t deter Lohan from racking up domestic violence charges, then just maybe Dr. Drew will.
